ascending “all”

My favorite thing about this exhibit is the way it evolves as you wind up the coil of the building. In any other space I don’t think it would have worked quite so well.

There’s hardly a word for the whole thing except irreverent. Brilliantly irreverent. Note the fake birds casually perched every now and then…

I was surprised by how many of the forms were reiterated in different ways throughout and how even individual pieces evolved as you got higher up. It was very coherent in that respect.

Here’s an example, take the dinosaur from below…

…straight on…

…up close…

…and from above.

Pretty spectacular right?

A few other favorite animal figures for you all - the rabbit with the longest ears…

…the elephant draped in a KKK cloak, titled: “Par Peur de l’Amour” (thank you for the correction!)

the pigeon patiently waiting for the (working) miniature elevator…

The light totally changed as we got towards the top…

where we found the marble body bags and police officers suspended upside down…

…and the contraption that held it all. I read somewhere that they hung this twice in a warehouse in Brooklyn to test it out before coming here. An engineering feat no doubt.

And finally, the very gratifying view from the top.

  3. pinkhotel said: Slight amendment(!) the elephant is actually draped in a KKK cloak- the title is “Par Peur de l’Amour”
