Laid low this weekend, brought down by a winter cold, but we did make it out briefly to the New Museum. at last. It was a beautiful day after all. Here’s the thing with Carsten Höller’s Experience though… While it was engaging, amusing - delightful even - the thing that happens when you base and exhibit on interaction, when you put a slide through the floorboards and a tank of water to strip down and float in in a corner and you produce a finite set of upside-down goggles for patrons to wear around… Refreshing as it is, unfortunately what happens is that everyone starts waiting in lines. Two hour lines. Choosing between attractions. And the whole thing starts to feel a little less like art and a little more like Disneyworld. Maybe we’ll try again, another time, see if we can beat the crowds at this crazy little carnival.
