doorbell
Rose just stopped by, to bring me cookies and to chat. She lives down the hall, where she has lived for 71 years. She was born into this apartment and inherited it when rent was $18 back in 1964. She reminds me of my Nana, which is to say she is adorable.
On our floor there are 4 apartments and we are the youngest residents by far. The next youngest moved in 30 years ago, if that gives you any idea. They raised their families in these apartments - with oddities like no sink in the bathroom and laundry in the kitchen. And they’ve told us stories of the prior tenants who inhabited our space - how there were 3 guys here before us, and once even 5 before that (though I must say, that is a massive stretch).
But today was just about cookies and a friendly chat. Who says neighbors in New York can’t be neighborly?
